Good Golly Miss Molly!

Posted by kel @ sweet treats at 8:12 AM
Molly is turning three, and what better way to celebrate than with a whole lotta cupcakes.

Molly's mum stipulated that there had to be a lot of pink, and that there had to be butterflies incorporated in there too. I jumped at the chance to do some ultra girly cupcakes!
I created some vanilla cupcakes topped with raspberry buttercream, butterflies, blossoms and hand rolled fondant pearls for the birthday girl.

Happy birthday Molly!

Kel, the cupcakes were a hit! The rasberry top was YUMMMMO. I will def. be calling on you again for any future need for treats! I hid them from Molly until it was time to light the candles - you should have seen her face.

Thanks again - you are a pleasure to deal with - Sheridan

These are absolutely adorable Kel! How did you make the butterflies?

Hey Lisa :)

I added some gum trag to fondant, rolled it out and cut them with a small wing cutter I have. Easy peasy, but they look so cute!

Did you get the cutter from Cake Deco? I love the shape of your butterflies better than the cutter I have!

Oooh good question!

I *think* it was from Cake Deco. It is a white plastic cutter with two wings that aren't joined, if that helps :)

That helps heaps thanks Kel...am going to Cake Deco on Saturday, so will keep en eye out for it - although that place is so packed it's hard to find anything in there!!

Oh tell me about it! I really wish they would get a bigger place because it's so cramped you're falling over everything. I love browsing but when it comes to finding something specific I have to spend ages asking them for things because I can't find anything myself. Does my head in.

Don't get me wrong, I love the place...but my goodness they need to expand.

Hi again Kel!! I bought some gum trag last week, but it didn't have instructions on the bottle, and I can't find anything on the net to tell me how much to add to pre-made fondant...how much do you add? TIA!

I use a product similar to gum trag called cellogen...my understanding is that you need less gum trag than cellogen. It depends how much fondant you're using, but I would say a tsp for 250g fondant? It's really a guess though (I'm terrible and don't measure anything haha!) You'll feel the fondant getting harder as you knead it in though, so add a little and add more if the fondant is still too soft.

Wow, where do find, or how do you make, such amazing decorations? :O

Hi Stephanie,

I made all of the decorations on these cupcakes - for the butterflies and flowers I used cutters, but I hand rolled the pearls myself.
